makes me a little sad when star trek ignores IDIC. like. vulcans are logical. that is true. But 'logical', for vulcans, does not amount to 'without compassion,' and it definitely doesn't amount to 'racial superiority.' Belief in 'infinite diversity in infinite combinations' should NOT result in the weird racist/speciest stuff we're getting in some of the newer treks. It does make sense that some vulcans are discriminatory. They're still flawed. But that should not be common or expected, like it seems to be in SNW. If it is, then it's a race of hypocrites, which. doesn't seem very true to Star Trek's message.
I think TOS Spock does a pretty good job of embodying this. Not always, it was the 60s, after all, but mostly. He was often trying to find non-violent routes, and get by without killing - even if they were in danger or had already been attacked. (See: the mugato, and the horta (until Kirk was the one in danger, lmao. t'hy'la > IDIC), the Gorn ship). Kirk, in his eulogy, calls him the most human soul he's ever known, and I've always read that as Kirk calling out Spock's overwhelming compassion.
It's just so much more interesting when Vulcans get to be radically compassionate. I want them to believe that everything and everyone has value. I want them to respect all ways of being. I want them to find ways for even very non-humanoid aliens to exist unfettered in society. I want them to see hybrids and think that it's amazing. Also, like, disability rep. I want Vulcans to have The Most Accessible Planet and available resources because they want everyone to feel accepted and valued. It makes for better characters and more interesting stories.
#tbh feels like some weird racist/misogynistic enlightenment-era philosophy coming through when they do that. y'know?#like 'oooh if you're fully logical you're BETTER than those who have EMOTIONS like WOMEN do'.#and the paramount execs are eating it up like 'yesss logic means being an ASS to people LESS LOGICAL than you!'.#like really guys. c'mon#like it makes sense in TAS that spock would get bullied by some kids. kids bully. that's common. makes sense that even vulcan kids bully#but if ADULTS are OFTEN doubting spock because he's half-human? that just kinda sucks. if i may it's even illogical#IDIC for me but not for thee type thing.#i think that being discriminatory should be a source of shame on a vulcan's house.#i think vulcans should adore learning about other cultures#star trek#vulcan#star trek vulcan#vulcans#vulcan culture#spock#star trek tos#tos#star trek the original series#sorry for my lack of mention of other major vulcan characters. I am so so behind in my star trek watching.#from what i've heard tuvok is also a good example. i know next to nothing about t'pol so couldn't say for her.

The reason I think the Bizzies being gender swapped works way better than having the Lizzies be gay is because it makes space in this musical for women to have sexual appetites and agency towards men in a way that's fairly rare in depictions of heterosexual relationships. For the Bizzies to seduce the Warriors by offering what they know the Warriors want and have the Warriors feel empowered to take it is imo more subversive than just like. The concept that women can be attracted to other women. Within the context of Warriors, because the text does address queerness in other places, I think it ends up being a more powerful statement to depict (some of) the Warriors as heterosexual women who have sexual agency than just being like. Well in a lesbian relationship someones gotta be the "guy" and tonight its gonna be the Warriors. Cowgirl is a heterosexual woman and she likes sex and the narrative never calls her a slut for that, and even when her sex drive gets her into trouble its still explicitly the fault of the person who tricked her, not her fault for wanting to get laid. When Rembrandt is listing the needs the Bizzies are offering to fulfill for the Warriors, she lists sex right up there with food. And thats something that I feel like doesnt often get talked about with heterosexual women especially in fiction. Theyre expected to be passive. The idea that the Warriors could need to get laid as badly as they need to eat and take a nap is just treated as like yeah duh. They've had a bad night. And that IS a revolutionary thing to put in a musical.
#idk if this is coherent im about five minutes from passing out#i just like. sometimes just making something queer doesnt make it more radical yk?#having a super femme girl gang who seduces the warriors and then SIKE theyre EVIL is like. thats actually not new.#actually evil seductive women and evil duplicitous lesbians are both kind of tired#but evil sweater wearing nsync boys who are so soft and gentle and nice and say all the right things about consent??? oooh yeah#now we're breaking new ground#warriors musical

Buddie fic where in an ambiguous earlier season (before bucktaylor?) Eddie is hanging out in his kitchen while he watches Buck cook. Theyâre having a good time, laughing together, when something sparks an unease in Eddie. A phone call? a visitor? A comment he just remembered? That makes him feel like heâs taking advantage of Buck by always letting him cook for them. That maybe it might be nice if Eddie actually learned to cook a dish or two to better balance their dynamic.
And he obviously thinks about going to Bobby or his abuela, but he can feel his chest tighten in embarrassment and Eddie doesnât like the feeling nor does he want to examine why he felt too seen when he thought of going to the people he cares about, so he signs himself up for some beginner cooking lessons.
He tells no one and he feels incredibly uncomfortable when the entire class is filled with older women (think 50-60s). Heâs incredulous at first because all of these women seem to know more than the basics and they spend a lot of the class gossiping about people he doesnât know. He doesnât mean to get sucked into the drama, heâs here to learn to cook!, but then Debra mentions her daughter getting into a fight in a Dennyâs parking lot and Eddie feels like heâs listening to a bad telenovela and he canât stop himself from opening his mouth and piping up with his thoughts.
At first heâs terrified as the entire group looks at him, but then Colleen, Midwest accent and one of the more sarcastic women, nods at him and goes on about how heâs right.
Soon Eddie gets dragged into this group and while he does learn some things about cooking, he realizes that he made friends. With people he doesnât work with!
Eventually why he was there gets brought up and he gets clocked as being in love with Buck so fast that his head spins. He wants to freak out about it, but Georgia pats his hand and smirks at him before asking if his Buck is handsome. The others all cackle when he blushes, but after they see a picture of Buck after a work out and one with him cuddling Chris, all they can do is gush at Eddie.
He loves it. He wonât ever admit it, but he loves it.
So he spends two nights every week learning what a ragĂš is and teaming up with Paula in an attempt to convince Pam that sheâd spent two decades too many on her deadbeat husband.
(And if Buck is surprised when Eddie cooks them pasta on a rare night Chris is with his abuela, and he blushes a pretty pink color that leaves Eddie lightheaded, well that just means he has something to tell The Girls tomorrow evening in between making pie dough and trying to get Lottie to admit she thinks Mr. Harris, her upstairs neighbor, is handsome.)
#911 abc#buddie#buddie fic#did I get too into this idea#yea but like sue me Eddie should have more HEALTHY relationships with women#let Paula and pam fight Helena Diaz#Georgia chainsmokes and once lost a pinky toe escaping a captor as a teen#Colleen is from the Midwest and makes some weird salads that arenât salads? she was also part of the cia but like#Debra enjoys a good glass of wine and is wanted by the irs#they think Eddie is VERY handsome and VERY charming#they hear him talk about Buck ONCE and collectively go oooh honey!! you want to kiss that man â¤ď¸#who am I sorry this got out of control#how could I forget Lottie???#sheâs the oldest and she complains about her upstairs neighbor all the time#heâs a handsome older gentleman that planted flowers in the apartments community garden#they happen to be Lottieâs favorite??? she hates him#sheâs a widow who married her ace best friend just you know for backstory

one thing I cannot wrap my head around on Death in Paradise is that no detective ever ends up in a relationship with a woman on the island. I donât even care if you emigrate back home with her, maybe thereâs a beautiful Saint Marie woman who loves the idea of cold and rain, but like not one of them??? an entire island and the showrunners just actively refuse to let it happen. câmon now
#âoooh well what about-â oh the guy who DIED and the guy who was rejected??? seriously#be real with me why wonât they just do it. women on the island are so beautiful and these white boys are still somehow always ending up#with girls from England who are on holiday. boo!!!!#IT ONLY WORKED TWICE! holy shit do NOT read or listen to âborrascaâ if you havenât had a TW attached to the start. It was an interesting story at first until I realized the twist before I actually read it, yet I kept reading until I saw where it was headed. The ooh spooky ooh so scary twist at the end is frankly disgusting, and is the worst form of shock value. This is the type of shit in that gross âplaygroundâ book that was popular a while back. Abuse and assault CAN be in horror and CAN be written well but âborrascaâ is not it. Pointless and nauseating 0/10
#tw assault#Tw abuse#oooh spooky and so imaginative and definitely not just a lazy attempt at shock value- systemic violence agasint women and children#borrasca

in a way it is funny that the anime seems to mean to establish itself as a less misogynistic take on scott pilgrim. but it just. really honestly isn't
#like oooh i loved your little gag about the responsible adult woman w the boyfriend who is lazy and a manchild and doesnt lift a finger#it was soooo not taken from a 80s family sitcom it was sooo modern of them to still be a good couple#it's sooo not the same tired trope because the guy doesnt sit on the couch with beer watching football. he has anime and video games#and the 2 shots focusing on women's asses. for some reason#but it's cool because we had michael cera get real close to the mic and say i don't endorse 23 year olds dating highschoolers#feminism accomplished phew#scott pilgrim#thing

thinking about how mishandled the herb brides are because like. The Text tells us they're not sexual beings (P1 mentions them being virgins, engaged to the Earth, and not to be touched even by their husbands, almost, for a lack of a better word and to conjure an image more than anything, priestess-types) and that their dances are nonsexual and sacred (all all true and correct) WHILE. giving them detailed / 3D modeled nipples. topless. clothes very conveniently torn [in ways that would be unrealistic for actual dancing like in the fucking moshpit]. all pretty thin hairless white-passing blemishless 20-something women. being already sexualized as white-passing asian women, but if they looked more like other NPC models/members of the Kin like the Kayura models (which to me would make more sense because they are never mentioned to be mixed in the way Artemy, an indigenous man who's blonde blue eyes due to being mixed, is [while still very much being indigenous and it being a central part of his story]), it would be even more obvious and would steer even more into Very Blatant fetishization of asian women. and then one asks, are they white-passing because they're sexualized? are they sexualized because they're white-passing? was it an admission of guilt to not make them look like Kayura model, because it would be too obvious then? or is it an admission of lust for women more white-passing? is it about beauty in the eye of the beholder?
then there's bewildering and dehumanizing lore of members of the Kin being non-humans, through the existence of the Worms (literally half-soil), them being a (more or less literal) hivemind, and that being "less human"/closer to the earth (nice_dichotomy_what_lies_outside_of_it png but also... the game touches on that...) immunizes them to the Earth's disease... and yet the Brides look like women... pretty thin hairless white-passing blemishless 20-something women who someone found wise to give 3d modeled nipples to, still good for the ritual cutting... do you hear how i'm going mad yet...
edit to add because while i was so mad and it WAS in my mind i just didn't have the strength to add it when i first wrote:
and they're bought and traded between the odonghs they pair with (again, closer to cattle or things) ... ladies there's so much. there's too much.
#werewolf tearing shirt off again#ah well. [lets myself drift away in the images i've made of the brides and my constant quest to humanize them and respect them and#make them diverse and full of life. which i might never manage to and yet i try.]#also i was thinking like. their celibacy + virginity + central spiritual place in the kin do be reminding me a lot of priestesses#[really sorry for boxing them in like that but if there is stuff of the same thing just with another name imagine i used it here#i just don't know any other]#and priestesshood famously was an option for women to avoid marriage; and often domestic/sexual servitude to their husbands#same for nuns who are also said to be like. ''engaged to christ'' in their own way (again only making tangentially similar patterns;#not calling the Brides nuns of course)#so having them be Said to be nonsexual [until they're said to be etc] while being Shown as sexualized it's like. oooh the misery#neigh (blabbers)#disclaimer i'm white & i'm sure Many indigenous women regardless of origins have touched on this in more direct and deeper ways i ever coul#oh there's also the fact that the kin is said in design document to mirror in ways 19th century native americans#and the herb brides going to sexualize themselves in the B.H. ''for outsiders'' (p1 dialogues)#mirrors native american women being pushed in brothels from the crushing roller of colonization stripping them of land#pushing them into poverty and homelessness#in ways that i um. raised eyebrow emoji to say the least. find deeply uncomfortable.

LRT that is such a thing with queer fandom spaces tho. It's like that post that's all "yeah your story is so gay but how are you treating your female characters" you know?
like yeah it's great that this is the queer fandom website but a good chunk of the time that just means placing a lot of focus on the white guys and that's still not great lmao
#this isnt anything I just need to spit my thoughts out somewhere#but it's been kinda bugging me ever since folks got all bug eyed about the bg3 romance stats#all the brushing Shadowheart's popularity off as straight guys that dont actually care about character depth#first of all saphic women and bi/pan exist believe it or not queer does not always = attraction to men#and believe it or not many straight men do have actual thoughts in their heads besides 'oooh im a tough guy banging a hot girl'#like do you guys actually go outside and talk to people or is your only experience with straight guy gamers angry youtube comments?#even just sticking to the internet you can find folks on reddit having discussions about her whole deal with Shar/Selune as early as ea#people have always been interested in her story#it just feels weird to brush off a female character's popularity as just being shallow#while considering the vocal online love for male characters to be inherently more deep#again this isnt anything it's not a call out sometime a bitch just needs to be petty and vent yeah?

Y'all gonna hate me for this one, but you can't call it a homoerotic friendship if that woman was never into you. It's called lust, limerence and delusion.
#txt#lgbt#wlw#lgbtqia#there is nothing more dehumanizing than being on the ace spectrum and being on the receiving end of this#words cannot describe how betrayed i felt#like especially considering i had to figure it out for myself#some of them arent even gay or bi they just want someone who IS between their legs like WHAT#i was a relationship with my fiancĂŠ and reliving gay rumors about me like why would i ever use someone as a beard#people can't tell the difference between platonic and romantic attraction and when you're kind to someone they think you want them#there's a stigma of being bi or pan where people just think your body is a free for all#or that you're really gay and confused when you're with a partner who is your opposite gender#like i always stayed away from dating women after being harmed by them all my life and oooh that was my last straw LMAOOOO#like i hate that people get obsessed with the idea of me#and when i fall from their pedestal they just want to ruin my life because they didnt get sex from me#even worse when they dont like you but they want to BE you like you are not gay#like they dont have an identity in general and are just latching onto mine and using romance as the excuse for access#so sick lmao im venting in the tags#homoerotic friendship my fat ass like a real friend would NEVER

Like I do think River and the Doctor's romance was built up poorly. However. You see. I like her.
#rose rambles#she is often poorly written#and Moffat has an obsession with calling her a psychpath#as a shorthand for whatever psychological issues he believes#inconsistently#that she developed by being raised by madame korvain#while not actually developing thr ways that these things would impact river and HER life#however. see. i like her. and I could fix her (writing. i do not need to fix her herself.)#I think moffat just went âcrazy women are hotâ and didn't care to go much further than that#given how he treat's Amy and River and how these aspects of their character are at most#acknowledged when useful#and at worst#there to go âooh obsessive amyâ or âoooh hot psychpathic killerâ#and this is why. i am taking them away from him.#he (moffat and the other writers) doesn't appreciate them enough#*enjoying amy and river greatly* i am not looking forward to seeing them on screen next season <3
